Law & Disorder 4: Equipped to steal?

Here is an additional situation to analyse and discuss.

Once more, what do you think about the interaction between police and suspect in terms of how they communicate with each other?

Do you agree that the suspect appears to be "equipped to steal"?

Do you think anything good can come out of this kind of arrest?

Law & Disorder 3: Racially aggravated antisocial behaviour

Watch this clip about police responding to a disturbance at a supermarket in London.

As you watch the clip, think about the following 3 questions:

1) What are the differences between this shoplifting incident and the incident you watched featuring three female suspects? (see http://hagaberg.blogspot.se/2016/03/law-disorder.html)?

2) How well or badly do you think the police handle the suspect?

3) If you were the police officer making this arrest, how would you feel about it?

Law & Disorder 2: Begging

Watch this clip about police responding to a begging incident in London.

As you watch the clip, think about the following 3 questions:

1) Begging is an offence, but in practice, how do the police deal with begging according to PC Ashman (at the beginning of the clip)?

2) How well or badly do you think the police handle the beggar?

3) If you were a police officer, how would YOU feel after arresting this particular man for begging?

Law & Disorder 1: Shoplifting

Watch this clip about police responding to a shoplifting incident in London.

As you watch the clip, think about the following 3 questions:

1) How well or badly do you think the police handle the stopping and searching of the 3 suspects?

2) In what ways do the suspects make things worse for themselves?

3) Listen carefully to the final minute of the clip. If you were a police officer, how would YOU feel after arresting people for the crime of stealing clothes from shops like New Look?
