Law & Disorder 3: Racially aggravated antisocial behaviour

Watch this clip about police responding to a disturbance at a supermarket in London.

As you watch the clip, think about the following 3 questions:

1) What are the differences between this shoplifting incident and the incident you watched featuring three female suspects? (see http://hagaberg.blogspot.se/2016/03/law-disorder.html)?

2) How well or badly do you think the police handle the suspect?

3) If you were the police officer making this arrest, how would you feel about it?

  1. 1. The differece is that the girls just stole some cheap clothes while this was a drunk trying to steal wine. The level of threat is a bit different.

    2. I think i went well since nobody got hurt and nothing got damaged.

    3. Good and a bit sad that these kind of people exist. It would had been better if i knew what the drunk said but thay censored him so.

  3. 1. The difference is that this man is quite intoxicated compared with the girls. In addition, the man was arrested at the crime scene.

    2. I think the police handled it very well. Determined but calm at the same time.

    3. As a policeman, I had not been particularly happy about having to arrest a drunken man. But on the other hand, he begged for it.

  4. The difference between these two shopliftings, this man was quite drunk and he was a disturbance to the people around him, also he was quite hateful towards immigrants of any kind(it seems like).

In this case the policemen handled the situation good, they gave him a warning when he started verbally abusing the shop owner with ethnic slurs.

I'd feel good about this arrest, this man were obviously a disturbance to the public, with his racist behaviour and his intoxication. I would feel good about removing him from the streets.

  5. the diffrens was that the man where at the crime scene and got cought doing somthing he where veryangry and hatefull towrds imigrants

In this manner i think the police did do a great job they gave the suspect 2 warnings befor they arested him for verballabuse
tho there was still 1 thing they cud have done better when the suspect tried to explain somthing they just hushed him and did listen atall to what he had to say.

I would feel realy good arresting a person that is so hatefull and disrespect full against outher people.
i would feel like a i keep the streets a bit safer having that man locket up

  6. 1. There was a direct victim with the wine incident (the racist comments) whereas with the three females there was a company that was the "victim".
The man was caught at the scene whereas the women was caught when they had already left it.

    2. They handled it well. They gave him three chances to stop with the racist comments and I think they communicated well and calmly with him.

3.I would have felt that I made a good thing for the man that worked in the store. Showing him and the perpetrator that it´s not tolerated to speak to other people like that.

  7. This shoplifting accident was a bit more out of hand since the man who was accused of shoplifting was drunk and then when he got arrested he was both agressive, rude and even a bit racist towards the cops and the store's staff.

This time as well i think the cops did a good job. Tho i think that the cop could have been harder on the suspect from start about his bad behavour and languige.

Not sure how i sould have felt but im pretty sure you might feel a little bit frightend if you know that the suspect is under the influence and that he might have weapons or what ever on him that can make the situation more unpleasent.
